At Abbey Vets Shrewsbury, our qualified and experienced staff make use of high-tech equipment to help provide your pet with the best care possible. With the advancements in technology and medical care, we are able to treat and diagnose a variety of conditions.
Digital X-ray and ultrasound procedures
Our facilities include a dedicated imaging suite and a state of the art ultrasound machine. This allows us to take X-rays of pets of all shapes and sizes. A digital image is generated in less that a minute to allow our vets to treat your pet as quickly and efficiently as possible. This allows us to identify and treat possible broken or fractured bones. We also have a dedicated dental X-ray machine.
Our ultrasound equipment allows our veterinary surgeons to safely examine your pets internal organs, in a non-invasive way. Having this equipment in-house means we can quickly diagnose conditions affecting the heart, liver, kidneys and even eyes. Our patients are scanned in the imaging suite, where the lights can be dimmed and your pet can relax with plenty of cuddles from our nurses.
Keeping them safe during surgical procedures
Occasionally, a patient may need to be anaesthetised for a period of time, such as during a surgical procedure. During this time our registered veterinary nurses monitor our patients to ensure every step has been taken to ensure their well-being. Our multi-parameter equipment allows us to monitor:
- ECG – the electrical activity of the heart
- Blood pressure
- Patients body temperature
- Pulse-oximetry – the concentration of oxygen in the blood
- Capnography – the level of carbon dioxide in the blood
- The respiratory rate
This gives a detailed clinical picture of the patients anaesthesia, and ensures it is as safe as possible for your pet.
In-house laboratory services
At Abbey vets we are able to offer in-house biochemistry, haematology, endocrinology and microscopy. Our facilities allow us to examine blood, urine, skin and other samples the same day, this is important if we require a rapid diagnosis. In certain circumstances, samples may be required to be sent to an external lab. This is why we have a dedicated courier service to transport them overnight for examination the following day.
